Hi
I’m a bowshooter from the northern part of Sweden that would like to know more about the possibilitys to bowhunt in Finland.
Do I need IBEP for example?
Have the Swedish hunting exam, been hunting for many years for smallgame and biggame and now I’m thinking of hunting with bow and arrow. Not legal in Sweden yet, hope it will be soon tho.
I prefeer to shoot the longbow or recurve, but also have an old compundbow that I shoot now and then.
Wish you all a happy new bow hunting year
Alfie from Sweden
Hi, Alfie.
Please contact Finnish Hunter’s Association (http://www.riista.fi/se/?mag_nr=14) to get a Finnish hunting card. For that you most likely need to send a copy of your valid hunting card in Sweden. There’s also a fairly nice generic summary about hunting in Finland @ http://www.riista.fi/data/atta…..aa_sve.pdf
After you have the hunting card, you can buy hunting permit for some areas from Forststyrelse (http://www.metsa.fi/sivustot/m…../Jakt.aspx) or post a message to our forum or yeswehunt.eu forum seeking exchange hunts. Many Finns could be interested in the opportunity.
Current Finnish legistlation related to hunting with bow & arrow can be found from http://www.finlex.fi/sv/laki/a…..3/19930666. Look at 20§.
In Finland, you need IBEP only if you hunt in Åland.
Don’t hesitate to ask more if needed.

Hey there.
I am a hunter from South Africa that lives in Finland nowadays and have similar questions regarding hunting and also hunting cards. I have a Hunting card from SA ”SA hunters and game conservation association” I am still due to get my club card as its harder now that i am living abroad. I will not have a problem joining a hunting club as my father in law is sorting that out for me.
Do you know if this is all I need in Finland?
Is there rules about importing my own bow too Finland?
Is there any bow hunters in the Tampere district?
I know this is maybe a bit of the topic but how do I get a rifle license in Finland as I am not a Finn and I know it could be hard getting one.
Greeting Gerbrand
Hi, Gerbrand.
There is a fairly good document on hunting in Finland available in Finnish Wildlife Agency’s web pages:
http://www.riista.fi/data/atta…..aa_eng.pdf
There are no issues importing your bow to Finland.
And yes, there are quite many bowhunters in Tampere region. Should you want to have a chat, feel free to contact me.
